mixology - A COMPLETE MIXING ebook

MIXOLOGY - A Complete Mixing Ebook

HERE ARE ALL THE chapters WE COVERED FOR YOU:

  • Here we will explain you the Analogy of a Perfect mix and how it can be visualized.
  • You must know that the mix can only be good or bad. There is no such thing as a perfect mix.
  • In this chapter, we will explain you how a listening environment or gears can affect your mix.
  • Through this chapter, I’ll explain you how we are going to guide you through this Mixing Ebook, and a few basic but important stuff.
  • Here you will get a detailed explanation about how to set up your Studio Desk, where to place your Monitors, and at what height the monitors should be placed.
  • Also, we will look up in detail where to place your desk, and most important where NOT to place your desk in the studio in order to avoid resonance and all the other things you could possibly do if you can’t afford or don’t want to do acoustic treatment of your studio.
  • From this chapter, we will be diving into the nitty-gritty of Mixing, here we will learn how to prepare for mix, what things to consider before you hit the mixing session in detail.
  • We will do all the stuff that could look less important, but when they add up together, they create a huge difference.
  • Also here we will learn how to check and edit your samples so that we can avoid any annoying pops or clicks which often are a result of badly recorded samples.
  • We’ll learn some tasks that you could do to make your project look organized that will help you to speed up your workflow.
  • We’ll also see what is an Effect bus or Return Track, why to use them more often than using effects as an insert. And most importantly, how to create an Effect Bus and make them ready to use.
  • Here we will understand what should be your mindset while mixing, and exactly what should you try and focus on achieving while mixing instruments and Vocals.
  • We will look upon how can we get started, what are the ways to get you in the ballpark of mixing, how to use Balancing tricks to get you at a good starting point.
  • We will also deal with conflicting instruments that are in the same frequency range and how to separate them.
  • Now, this is probably the most tedious chapter of all of the others and also debatably, the most important one.
  • The EQ is a kind of scalpel when it comes to fixing a mix. This is the most important tool that we can use to make our music both – sound better and cleaner. And in this equalization lesson, we are going to learn how to achieve it Step by Step.
  • This is the longest chapter of the Mixing Ebook and it should be because no one can explain Equalization in detail with only a few pages, but don’t worry, you won’t found it difficult or boring. We have designed this book to ensure that every page should have something new information and no extra stuff that aren’t necessary at all.
  • In this chapter, we will learn how to use EQ charts, how they can help us to stay clear while using EQs
  • We will also look at some important topics that are often ignored by beginners like the mid-side processing, etc.
  • Till the Reverb chapter, our mix will sound far better than before, as we have learned how to separate instruments from getting in each other’s way, how to balance the dynamics of samples or instruments, and how to correctly Pan your tracks from left to right.
  • But we still haven’t learned about placing your tracks back and forth and we can achieve it by using reverb and this is what we are going to learn in this chapter.
  • We can use reverb in two ways, one to make something sound pleasant which is a part of producing music, and the other to place it far away from the listener which comes under the mixing process.
  • We will learn both the ways of using Reverb, so this chapter will be very interesting as it depends on the feel of our song how to use reverb on it.
  • Saturation and Distortion can really help to add depth and weight to your vocals and instruments if used correctly.
  • During mixing, saturation can be used for both technical and creative purposes, and in this chapter, we will explain you, in how many ways you can use saturation and distortion plugins and how to get the best out of them,
  • Here we will explain you the Analogy of a Perfect mix and how it can be visualized.
  • You must know that the mix can only be good or bad. There is no such thing as a perfect mix.
  • In this chapter, we will explain you how a listening environment or gears can affect your mix.
  • Through this chapter, I’ll explain you how we are going to guide you through this ebook, and a few basic but important stuff.
  • Here we will explain how an untreated room can disturb the sound coming from your monitors, and why using studio monitors with an untreated room is not recommended.
  • In this section, you will get a detailed guide on how to do acoustic treatment of your home studio or studio, what are the things that are necessary to do before applying acoustics.
  • What are the most problematic areas of your studio and what can you do to improve them.
  • Also the types of sound-absorbing or diffusing equipment you could use in some areas and the things to consider before buying any acoustic panels, bass traps, and diffusors.
  • As I said earlier, there’s no such thing as a Perfect Mix, a mix can only be good or bad. And here we will explain how mixing not being a task is an Art, and there’s no procedure that you can follow to get a good mix.
  • But there are a few things that are standard and important, and can be learned in order to change your way of approach towards mixing and I call it
  • The 3 Dimensions of Sound.
  • The 3 Dimensions of Music.
  • This chapter is really important because for the rest of the chapters we will be working and applying the basics from this chapter.
  • In this chapter, we will learn how can improve our music by using only panning.
  • We’ll learn how to pan instruments and sounds like Drums, Piano, Vocals in complete detail.
  • We will learn a special trick that can help us to Pan our tracks and create a busy mix little bit organized and clean.
  • And then you’ll get to know about my best 11 panning tips.

  • We will also look at some important topics that are often ignored by beginners like the mid-side processing, etc.
  • When it comes to making your tracks sound good together and balancing the dynamics of your samples Compression has a very crucial role.
  • And in this second longest chapter, we are going to learn, how to correctly use a compressor, what are the basic parameter, and types of compressors, and what compressor to use when.
  • After the basic knowledge, we will dive deeper into using compressors like a pro and show you what is my way to use compressors in series, what is parallel compression and how to do it, and how you can compress every track like drums, vocals, synths, pianos, etc.
And at the end, we will look at some important tips you can apply while using a compressor.
  • Till the Reverb chapter, our mix will sound far better than before, as we have learned how to separate instruments from getting in each other’s way, how to balance the dynamics of samples or instruments, and how to correctly Pan your tracks from left to right.

  • Delays are the best way to make your tracks move back in your mix without making it sound cluttery what an excess reverb would do.
  • So this chapter contains a detailed explanation on Delays and their parameters.
  • We will also look at what should be your approach while using delay, and learn how to use it on each type of sound and instrument.
  • Saturation and Distortion can really help to add depth and weight to your vocals and instruments if used correctly.
  • During mixing, saturation can be used for both technical and creative purposes, and in this chapter, we will explain you, in how many ways you can use saturation and distortion plugins and how to get the best out of them.
  • In order to finish the mix, there is something that you should always do to get your mix to translate well for anyone that listens to it. You need to listen to your mix on several different types of loudspeakers and take down notes on what jumps out at you that you need to fix.
  • Making your mix translate to other speakers is incredibly important. It doesn’t really matter if you have the best equipment in the world. If your mixes sounds bad on the bad systems, then your high-end monitors mean nothing.
  • Here we will explain you the things you can do to make sure your mix sounds the best it can before you take it to your car or play it on the home stereo. Do them all in succession or go back and forth between them.
  • Here we will explain how an untreated room can disturb the sound coming from your monitors, and why using studio monitors with an untreated room is not recommended.

why we created mixology?

Before I started midisic I was in the same condition as you guy are, I know what it feels like to have an amazing ideas for music poor mixing skills. It took all the fun in music making.

When I started producing the only problem I was facing was a BAD MIX, even though I had all expensive gears but, it didn't seems that I was doing any better with them.

Making music music was fun for me BUT when it comes to mixing that piece of music I always got stuck to these same problems:

❌ Not knowing HOW and from WHERE to start Mixing
❌ How to separate two instruments from getting in each other's way
❌ Always failed to make an instrument cut-through the mix
❌ Struggling to hear the difference after EQing instruments
❌ All I was doing was inserting random plugins and tweaking unconfidently until it sounded good, which in most of the case ruining my mix and I wasn't able to notice it. I was afraid to look at the Master Channel as it always RED (Clipping).

All these problems made me end up in a never ending loop of GUESS-MIXING, and never helped to finish a single good music.

BUT Then I decided to take a long break and learn Mixing no matter how much time it takes. I had few contacts with professional engineers who were already doing great in this field. So I asked them if I could work for them in exchange of working in their studio for free. They agreed and I started to learn from them for 1 year.

This is where Everything Changed for me.

This is Me NOW!

✅ Feeling Confident about my Mixing Choices.

✅ Now I know what exactly is lacking in my vocals, drums, and the overall mix.

✅ Never get stuck while mixing.

✅ Knowing how to correctly separate two instruments in the same frequency range.

When I learned everything, I understood various steps that were missing earlier and were needed to fill up. Knowing about any thing is different and having knowledge about everything is different.

Now a thought came to my mind about how many producers would be out there looking for a perfect teacher who can tech them the things they need to know and not just any random topic from in between.

With the hope of providing the knowledge I received, I along with my brother started an Instagram page "MIDISIC". From that platform, our aim was to provide the valuable knowledge about music on every topic. Started with ZERO, but gradually with the support of fellow young music producers, we reached to a great height. And we were happy teaching them everything. From our Instagram page.

We successfully shared 150+ Informative tips and tricks that received massive response and blessings.

But somewhere I learned that within the limit of few slides, We couldn't explain everything. As the knowledge will be distributed partially and not fully at a time. Here came an Idea to create an Mixing Ebook containing all of my experiences and learnings that I could share with you guys.

In this Mixing Ebook, you'll get everything from start to finish about mixing and nothing random. Learning things from anywhere, we can know partially about it, but without knowing the thing you want to learn in sequence, will leave you unconfident and in doubt.

After finishing this Mixing Ebook, I'm sure, you'll be confident and from the next time when you'll sit in front of your DAW, with a track to mix, you'll automatically get ideas on WHAT TO DO NEXT.
